Gunfire Erupts as Nigerian Navy Clashes with Youths Over Fuel Smuggling in Lagos Community

Tension escalates in a Lagos community as a clash between the Nigerian Navy and local youths over alleged fuel smuggling leads to gunshots and chaos.

On Thursday, a violent confrontation erupted between Nigerian Navy personnel and local youths in Farasime village, located near the Owode Apa boundary in Badagry West, Lagos State.

The altercation reportedly started when navy personnel launched an operation to apprehend smugglers transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, across the border into Cotonou.

A person who contacted SaharaReporters from his hiding place at home described the situation as both stressful and dangerous.

According to the source, “The Navy arrived to apprehend individuals involved in fuel smuggling to Cotonou; however, when the youths resisted, the officers opened fire.”

The source, who insisted they were not involved in smuggling, stated, “A group of youths have started a large fire in front of my house to block the road. I am very frightened because my home is right by the roadside.”

He stated that the situation has instilled widespread fear among residents, leaving many uncertain about their safety as the gunfire persists.
