Government of Zamfara orders security chiefs to increase security along sensitive highways due to unrest
The Zamfara State Government has ordered security officers to start aggressive patrolling the state’s dangerous routes.
Suleiman Bala Idris, the governor’s senior special assistant for media and publicity, revealed this in a press release that he signed and sent to journalists on Friday in Gusau.
According to the statement, Governor Dauda expressed grave worry over the state’s security situation during the most recent State Security Council meeting.
Accordingly, “He directed the Heads of the Security Agencies in the State to step up their efforts to secure lives and property of the residents,” the statement continued.
“Especially on the activities of bandits on some highways, such as the Gusau to Funtua road; Magami to Dangulbi; Dan Kurmi to Anka road; and Magami to Dansadau road.”
One tactic used by the state government to reduce banditry is the deployment of heavy forces on patrols along the Gusau to Funtua road and other flashpoints in the State, according to the Governor’s Spokesperson.
The Army, Air Force, and Police are among the security personnel patrolling the dangerous highways, he continued.
At the most recent Security Council meeting, Governor Dauda Lawal ordered the leaders of the military and police to deploy CSK armoured and armoured personnel carrier, APC vehicles to continuously monitor all the affected key highways, where the State Government provides them with logistics.
“Peace has been restored as people travel safely thanks to the mobilisation of security personnel on these tumultuous highways over the last two days.”
“The State Government issued a directive ordering the closure of marketplaces thought to be trafficking points for cattle rustling. The order is a crucial step in putting a stop to this illegal behaviour and guaranteeing the safety and security of our communities.
Additionally, the government has completed all necessary preparations to start the recruiting and training of the civilian JTF in accordance with the Governor.
