Governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara has ordered all twenty-three local government areas’ Heads of Local Government Administrations, or HLGAs, to assume leadership of councils as of this Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

This instruction comes when the terms of the 23 Local Government Areas, or LGA, Chairmen expire on Monday, June 17, 2024, according to Obasanjonews.com.

To “immediately take charge of the Councils with renewed vigour and readiness to serve and await further directives as we navigate towards even greater accomplishments together,” Governor Fubara gave the HLGAs instructions in a broadcast on Tuesday morning.
Governor Fubara expressed his gratitude to the departing LGA Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors for their devoted service to their local economies.

He wished them luck in their future undertakings and complimented them for finishing their terms with success.

Working together, we have made significant progress in a number of economic areas, such as infrastructure, health, education, worker welfare, enhanced service delivery, agriculture, and social welfare, all of which have a strong hold on our local communities.

Your tenacious and dedicated assistance has been the cornerstone of our advancement, and I sincerely appreciate you for that.

In accordance with the law, the terms of the departing elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors, who were chosen and sworn in three years ago, ended yesterday, June 17, 2024. I also want to recognise and applaud their hard work.

I would like to thank each and every one of you on behalf of the Government and the people of Rivers State for your sacrifices and to recognise your dedication to public service and our beloved state.
