Gov Alia claims to have refrained from borrowing money since their inauguration

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has vehemently denied the allegations made in a newspaper report claiming that he and 12 other state governors collectively borrowed a total of N226.8bn between June and December 2023.

Through his Chief Press Secretary, Kulas Tersoo, Governor Alia clarified that his administration has not borrowed any money from either domestic or external sources since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

He emphasized that all the debts mentioned in the report were incurred prior to his administration taking over.

Governor Alia further stated that his government is cautious about borrowing and will only do so when it is necessary and in the best interest of the people of Benue state, particularly for funding critical projects.
