In its report, which was delivered to Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Committee on Auditing of Arms and Personnel of the Abia State Vigilante Service, AVS, and Abia State Homeland Security Security Watch, AHLSW, revealed that the two security organisations had engaged in multimillion-naira fraud.
The revelations were disclosed on Wednesday as the Committee was submitting its conclusions. The Committee was formed by Governor Otti to audit the Arms and Personnel of the AVS and AHLSW.
The report’s presenter and chairman of the seven-person committee, Assistant Commander Ogbuehi Emmanuel, Rtd, stated that the two establishments spent 194 million naira a year on paying and providing services to ghost workers.
In both security agencies, he stated, a significant number of ghost employees had been found.
The Governor was told by Commander Emmanuel that his committee had completed the tasks assigned to them thoroughly, and he was advised to look through and follow the committee’s recommendations.
The Governor was also congratulated for giving the committee members the chance to work for the state.
Following receipt of the report, Governor Otti, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Calab Ajagba, declared that the State government will thoroughly examine the findings.
The governor, he emphasised, was concerned about protecting people’s lives and property as well as eliminating corruption in the state.
No civilization can prosper in a state of insecurity, according to the Chief of Staff.
Commodore Macdonald Uba Rtd, who serves as the governor of Abia State’s special adviser on security, was present at the event for the turnover of power.
