Full November salary for ASUU is paid, but 8-month arrears are withheld
For November 2022, lecturers employed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities got their full pay; nevertheless, the Federal Government continued to withhold the eight-month arrears.
In a chat with a Punch correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday, a top member of the union at the Bayero University Kano made this information clear.
“Some of our members have begun getting their pay, and I can attest that we received our entire November salary.
The arrears are still not paid, nevertheless.
For the eight months that the union was on strike, the Federal Government refused to pay the lecturers who were on strike.

According to Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, the lecturers were also paid pro rata (half-pay) in October 2022.
A top member of ASUU who spoke under strict confidentiality said that reports indicated that the academics were only paid for 18 working days in October.
We were only compensated for the days after the strike, he claimed. I got paid only half. Currently, some members are furious and blaming the NEC for ending the strike.
Educators from throughout the nation have been demonstrating against this Federal Government decision.
In the upcoming days, the union’s National Executive Council is anticipated to convene an important meeting over unpaid wages.
