Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged Rivers State lawmakers to prioritize the interests of the people and embrace peace amid ongoing political tensions.

On Thursday, Governor Siminalayi Fubara urged members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to prioritize the interests of the state’s residents and seek peaceful solutions to resolve the ongoing political impasse in South-South state.

“It is crucial for all of us to embrace peace at this stage,” Fubara stated while inaugurating several projects in the Okrika Local Government Area.

The governor emphasized the need for peace to effectively govern the state and urged all discontented political figures to move past previous events. He called on them to fully commit to implementing the set of decisions issued by the Supreme Court on February 28, 2025.

“The Supreme Court has delivered its ruling, and we must comply with it. By the special grace of God, we’ve begun the process.”

We urge other parties to prioritize the interests of Rivers State. Our sole responsibility to this state is ensuring peace and fostering development.

The governor stated, “I am available any day, at any time, to ensure complete peace in our state because effective governance requires it.”

The ongoing conflict between the Wike-backed House of Assembly and Governor Fubara appears to have no resolution, as evidenced by an incident on Wednesday. The governor was denied entry to the Assembly Quarters when he attempted to re-present the state’s 2025 Budget, following a directive from the House in light of the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025 verdict.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara was locked out of the Rivers Assembly.

The governor stated that he informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule about his visit, but the Assembly reported receiving no notification regarding it.

As the events unfolded in the South-South state on Wednesday, Fubara’s former mentor and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, stated during a media chat in Abuja that he sees no issue with lawmakers choosing to remove Fubara from office for alleged impeachable offenses such as withholding their salaries for several months.
