Two suspects have been detained by the South-West Nigeria Security Network, better known as the Amotekun Corps, in Ekiti for allegedly attempting to murder a teenager for ceremonial purposes.

The victim was ambushed by one of the accused when she was on her way to church, according to Brig.-Gen. Joe Komolafe (retd.), the commander of the Amotekun Corps, who paraded the suspects before media on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.

Komolafe said that the suspect’s luck eventually ran out as he tried to cut his victim’s neck with a knife while the adolescent, Osigba God-first, wrestled with him and screamed for help, drawing attention to the situation.

He approached the woman with a knife before dawn on Sunday as she was on her way to church, but she was able to fight him off and yelled at him.

“Her younger brother, who was trailing behind, then turned around and went back home, which is how they ended up reporting to us at Amotekun, where we then apprehended him.

When he arrived, the commander added, “He informed us that the herbalist advised him that he should bring human flesh for the ceremony, therefore the herbalist was also detained.”

The arrest of two further accused kidnappers over the weekend who killed their victim despite receiving a ransom was also reported by Komolafe.

“They abducted the victim in the Kajola Area and murdered him anyhow, even after getting the money.

“We managed to apprehend two of the suspects, and we also found the weapons they had used to murder the victim.

“However, we have turned them over to the police as required by law, and they have been brought to court.

One of those who escaped has also been captured by the police, he added.

In light of the security issues afflicting the state and the country as a whole, the commandant also issued a warning to citizens of the state.

“I urge folks at home to be very cautious since things are not going well in the nation right now, and individuals want to earn money at any cost.”
