Four US nationals have been confirmed dead as a result of a Tuesday attack on a staff convoy traveling along Atani-Osamale Road in Anambra State.

Tobechukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence in a statement but insisted that there were no US citizens in the convoy.

Following an attack on a convoy of US Consulate workers today, May 16, 2023, by 3:30 pm along Atani-Osamale Road, he stated that “The Joint Security Forces have embarked on a rescue and recovery operation in Ogbaru LGA.”

“The thugs burned their bodies and vehicles after killing two PMF operatives and two consulate employees. Additionally, the killers and arsonists kidnapped two police officers and the driver of the second car and fled when they saw the responding joint security forces. There was no U.S. citizen in the convoy.

The spokesman promised that the police would not be discouraged in their fight against rebels while expressing the command’s sorrow at the convoy’s arrival in the state without consulting the police or any other local security agency.

This conflict “will be sustained until such a time as security stability is fully restored,” he said.

John Kirby, the spokesperson for the US National Security Council, claimed that no Americans were harmed after the strike.

“Before coming out here to talk to you all, I just learned a lot. “It just seems like an attack on a US convoy vehicle,” he wrote on his YouTube account. “What I can tell you is that there were no US citizens involved, and as a result, no US citizens were injured. However, we are aware of some fatalities or at least wounded people.

The attack is the most recent in a string of assaults in Anambra. Recently, high-profile individuals and organizations in the state, as well as security and government installations, have all been the targets of targeted attacks.

Security officials said they are prepared to combat the attackers, even though no group has claimed responsibility for the strikes. John Kirby, a spokesman for the security council, said no Americans were impacted.
