Former president’s advice FG: Strengthen FRSC rather than reinforce it

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has suggested that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) be strengthened rather than combined with other organizations.

During the rule of the previous head of state Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, the Corps was founded in 1988. However, the Federal Government has not yet made these plans to integrate the FRSC public.

In a statement released on Friday by Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo remembered how he resisted pressure to combine the FRSC with other organizations while in government from 1999 to 2007.

The former president, who welcomed the Corps delegation led by Deputy Corp Marshall Susan Akenge to his penthouse apartment at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), praised the group for keeping the country’s roadways orderly despite growth in both the population and the economy.

One thing you have to understand, according to Obasanjo, is that when the population increases daily or even hourly, you must manage both the driver (who might not be in the greatest mood when leaving the house in the morning) and the vehicle, which might not be in the best condition that a vehicle should be.

“I must admit that you have been performing well, which is reasonable.

I must thus conclude that you have benefited all of us.

“When I worked in government, I resisted the urge to combine you with other organizations. I’m not sure if others will do the same, but I hope they won’t since your role is growing every day.

To get the most out of what you are doing right now, they should make sure to keep improving your professional potential rather than merging you.

Ange had earlier stated that a statement of gratitude from Corps headquarters accompanied the courtesy visit in recognition of the previous president’s enormous contribution to the organization’s survival.

“I have come to appreciate you and thank you, sir, on behalf of the FRSC headquarters, the zonal headquarters, and the Special Marshal.

We pray that God would extend your life so you can enjoy the rewards of your labor, she added.
