A “strong candidate” to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, Julen Lopetegui, a former Premier League manager, is supposedly ahead of Roberto De Zerbi, Graham Potter, and Zinedine Zidane.

Ten Hag is under a lot of heat right now at Old Trafford after Man United’s humiliating Champions League exit on Tuesday.

Ten Hag has been under fire for his football philosophy, player selections, and handling of specific Man United players, such as Jadon Sancho.

A few commentators have suggested that Man United fire the Dutchman and hire a new manager.

But according to Spanish publication Relevo, Lopetegui—who previously served as coach of Premier League team Wolves—has become a top choice due to his proficiency in both English and the Premier League as well as his background in European championships.

Lopetegui’s close bond with several of the present Man United players, such as Raphael Varane and Casemiro, in the locker room is also believed to have impressed the board.

The 57-year-old left Wolves in August, and since then, he has not been employed.
