Emmanuel Adebayor, a former striker for Manchester City and Arsenal, announced on Tuesday that he was quitting football at the age of 39.

The former Togo international announced his retirement in a video posted to his Instagram account, in which he signed a piece of paper with the caption “Thanks for the blessings!!!”

Adebayor, a former star of Tottenham Hotspur, scored for Manchester City against Arsenal in what is possibly the most controversial goal in Premier League history. After the goal, Adebayor sprinted the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Gunners supporters who previously adored him.
