Football world mourns the loss of Tony Book, former captain and manager of Manchester City, who has passed away at the age of 79, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the club’s history.

Tony Book, the former Manchester City captain and manager, has passed away at 90 years old, as announced by the Premier League club on Tuesday.

Right-back Book led City as captain to secure four major trophies, including the English top-flight title and the European Cup Winners’ Cup, during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

He subsequently guided them to a League Cup victory as manager in 1976.

Book was later appointed honorary president at City and life president of the official supporters club.

“Tony played a significant role in shaping Manchester City for almost sixty years,” stated City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

“Not only in his roles as player, captain, and manager did he make a significant impact, but also in the way he carried himself. His dreams and aspirations for the club were equaled by his remarkable humility about his own considerable accomplishments.”

He said, “Tony’s dedication to his club was evident when he continued carrying out club duties earlier this season. I will greatly miss seeing him at our games.”
