Five Rescued as Cargo Plane Skids Off Runway in Abuja

Five individuals were rescued after a cargo plane skidded off the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.

On Wednesday, an Allied Air Cargo aircraft experienced a tire burst, causing it to skid off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to a statement from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), there were five passengers on board the aircraft registered as 5N-JRT.

FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah stated that the passengers were rescued and transported to the hospital for medical care.

She stated that the runway at the airport has been temporarily closed due to the incident.

The incident reportedly led to substantial disruptions, causing multiple departures to be delayed as authorities worked to clear the affected runway.

According to the statement, at 10:05 AM on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo plane registered as 5N-JRT veered off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. All five individuals on board were unharmed and safely evacuated before being taken to the FAN clinic for additional examinations.

The Airport Emergency Response Team and accident investigators are at the scene. The runway is currently being cleared and is anticipated to reopen for operations shortly.

At 10:05 a.m. on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo plane registered as 5N-JRT veered off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. There were five people on board and no injuries were reported.

Everyone was safely evacuated and transported to the FAAN clinic for further evaluation.
