Final-year OAU student died in campus accident, three others are hurt
The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has certified the passing of Agric/Economics 500-level student Chisom Nwankwo.
The event happened on Tuesday, according to Abiodun Olanrewaju, the institution’s public relations officer.
“At approximately 11 a.m., there was an accident on Road 1 involving two okadas and two vehicles,” he stated.

“One specific Okada rider was attempting to pass a red Toyota Corolla. Sadly, the motorcycle was struck by the car’s side mirror, causing the rider and passenger to fall.
“The passenger is Deborah Okunola, a psychology Part 2 student at our school. A female student named Chisom Nwankwo, a Part 5 student in the Department of Agric Economics, arrived at the scene while they were attempting to minister to themselves. One Chika Nwakore was carrying her.
The first accident caused the motorcycle transporting Chisom to become distracted, which caused him to lose focus. The bike was struck by an oncoming bus. Both the passenger and the rider fell.
We were informed that after being hurt and being brought to our health clinic, Chisom and the Okada man were sent to the OAU Teaching Hospital, but Chisom was subsequently pronounced dead.
“On campus, the body is in the anatomy department. The police have been notified by university administrators, who are also taking the appropriate measures. The management disapproved of the recklessness on our roadways, and the vice-chancellor is not pleased with the current state of affairs.
“We offer our condolences to the dead person’s parents and ask God Almighty to provide them the strength to endure this awful loss. We would not be pleased to lose any of our pupils.
