The Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Scheme of the Federal Government would provide a special grant of N25,000 to each disadvantaged retiree in the nation.

This was said by Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, during a meeting in Abuja with the NLC’s executive, led by Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress.

“President Bola Tinubu made it very plain that vulnerable pensioners should be added to the National Social Register and given CCT benefits right now.

She stated, “As part of the social safety net, this was made explicit in his speech on Independence Day where he committed 25000 Naira for 15,000,000 households for three months.

Edu reminded the union’s leadership that the plan for “renewed hope” included a desire to increase the size of the national social register in order to include vulnerable elderly in the CCT programme.

She urged the NLC to assist in accelerating the process of gathering data on potential vulnerable pensioner beneficiaries so they could begin receiving CCT.

Edu stated, “I want us to move this along quickly so that we can ensure that the anticipated beneficiaries can begin receiving their stipends as early as November.”

The priest praised Ajaero for his dedication to the group.
