The Federal Government raises the cost for Unity schools from N45,000 to N100,000

The Federal Ministry of Education recently issued a directive raising the school fees for new students enrolling in Federal Government Colleges, also known as Federal Unity Colleges, to $100,000.

The directive, which was contained in a circular with the reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I and was dated May 25, 2023, was addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges.

According to the circular marked “Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students,” written by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, new students must now pay N100,000 instead of the former cost of N45,000.

Tuition and boarding fees, uniforms, textbooks, deposits, exercise books, prospectus, caution fees, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra classes, insurance, and other school-related expenses will be increased.

“The most recent fee/charge increase will affect virtually every aspect and activity of the school, including tuition and boarding fees, uniform, textbooks, deposits, exercise books, prospectus, caution fee, ID card, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson, insurance, and so on.”

“Please be advised that the ministry has approved only the fees and charges listed below for all Unity Colleges,” the memo stated.

In a recent development, the Federal Ministry of Education issued an order raising the school fees for new students enrolling in Federal Government Colleges, also known as Federal Unity Colleges, to $100,000.

The directive, included in a circular with reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I and dated May 25, 2023, was addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges.

According to the circular titled “Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students,” signed by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, new students would now be expected to pay N100,000 instead of the previous cost of N45,000.

Tuition and boarding fees, uniforms, textbooks, deposits, exercise books, prospectus, caution fees, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra classes, insurance, and other school-related expenses will all be raised.

“The most recent fee/charge increase will affect virtually all aspects and activities of the school, including tuition and boarding fees, uniform, textbooks, deposit, exercise books, prospectus, caution fee, ID card, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson, insurance, and so on.”

Please be advised that the ministry has approved just the fees and charges indicated below for all Unity Colleges,” the memo stated.
