The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FCT FEMA) has reported the Wednesday night collapse of a two-story structure at Lagos Street, Garki village, Abuja.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, a multi-story structure collapsed in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, killing an unidentified number of people.
However, the agency’s head of public affairs, Mrs. Nkechi Isa, said in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja that 37 people were saved alive while two others suffered fatal injuries.
According to Isa, a rescue effort was ongoing to look for further victims.
She continued by saying that a team from the FCT FEMA, Federal Road Safety Corps, and FCT Command of the Nigeria Police was on the scene to rescue and evacuate victims.
“The two-story building, which had both residential and business uses, collapsed on Wednesday night.
She stated, “FCT FEMA Search and Rescue Team are expecting excavators to intensify the search to make sure that no victim is left in the ruins of the collapsed structure.
Dr. Abbass Iddriss, the agency’s director general, applauded the efforts of all parties involved, particularly the community members who were laboriously rescuing trapped people by hand.
