Federal Government distributes 8,925 cost-effective residences to Nigerian citizens

The National Housing Programme, under the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, has announced that it will allocate a total of 8,925 houses to successful applicants.

This allocation is a significant step towards fulfilling the government’s commitment to providing accessible housing options for the people.

The decision to allocate these houses was made after a thorough assessment of the requirements and procedures outlined in a circular issued in December 2023.

The allocation includes various housing schemes such as outright payment, mortgage, rent-to-own, and payment by installment, catering to the diverse needs of the applicants.

The government received a total of 8,925 applications, with different numbers of applicants opting for each scheme.

Applicants who have enrolled in the mortgage, rent-to-own, and installment payment schemes and are subscribers to the National Housing Fund are currently being profiled.

Successful applicants who have chosen outright payment will receive new provisional allocations through the Federal Controllers of Housing and Urban Development in states, as well as the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), who will initiate contact with subscribers for further coordination starting from Thursday, April 18.

It is important to note that completed houses are currently not available in Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The allocation of housing units in these regions will be carried out once the housing projects are completed later in the year.
