Family Gathers at Soccer Icon Pele’s Hospital Bedside
At the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, where the 82-year-old global superstar has been since the end of November, Pele’s family members have gathered.
This week, medical professionals said that Pele’s cancer had progressed and that the three-time World Cup champion was receiving “elevated care” due to “kidney and heart dysfunctions.” There haven’t been any further hospital remarks released subsequently.
One of Pele’s kids, Edinho, also known as Edson Cholbi Nascimento, came on Saturday, one day after he denied going to see his father in the hospital at a press conference. Only doctors, according to Edinho, who works for a soccer team in southern Brazil, could assist his father.
One of Pele’s daughters, Kely Nascimento, posted a photo of herself at the hospital with Edinho and two of his kids, along with the caption, “He (Edson) is here.” No one will take me out of here, so I’m not going.
A few hours later, Edinho, who used to play goalie for Santos, posted a picture of himself holding his dad’s hand.

Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, underwent colon surgery in September 2021. Whether the disease had spread to other organs has not been disclosed by either his family or the hospital.
On Friday night, Kely Nascimento and her sister Flavia Arantes do Nascimento posted a picture on social media of Pele appearing to be clutching onto Kely with one hand while he lay in his hospital bed and Flavia dozed off on a couch.
“We are still here, fighting this battle with hope.” another joint evening,” wrote Kely Nascimento.
The hospital has not reported any symptoms of Pele’s most recent respiratory infection, which COVID-19 made worse.
The So Paulo newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported the weekend before last that Pele’s treatment was failing and that his medical team had decided to switch to palliative care.Pele’s relatives disputed the report.
Pele, who still holds the record for most goals scored by the Brazilian national team with 77, guided Brazil to victories in the 1958, 1962, and 1970 World Cups. During the most recent World Cup, Neymar tied Pele’s record.
