Tony Okocha has come under fire from Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the former national publicity secretary of the now-defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for his assertion that he is the party’s leader in Rivers State.

According to Obasanjo News24, Okocha said that Chibuike Amaechi, the former governor, was no longer the APC’s leader in the state at a speech he gave to media over the weekend in Port Harcourt.

Okocha asserted that he had organised and energised support in the state for Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, and that the party prevailed handily in the state thanks to Governor Nyesom Wike’s substantial backing.

He continued by asserting that Amaechi’s move was the pinnacle of anti-party activities and that the former governor had long since deserted the party.

In response to Okocha’s remarks, which he made available to reporters on Thursday, Eze said it was depressing that Okocha—who Amaechi picked out of the gutter and appointed Chief of Staff while serving as Rivers State Governor—was now demonstrating how foolish he was by criticising and disparaging the character and demeanour of his former boss.

Since Okocha refused to authenticate his party membership and has no party membership card—rather, he is a hireling acting on behalf of those funding his dirty work in Rivers State—Eze asked Okocha to clarify whether he was an APC member during the general elections of 2023 and to be informed of any decisions made by the party’s leadership regarding the results of the elections.

“Amaechi and Okocha are not on the same level, and Amaechi will never be brought low enough to join issues with him in his dirty type of politics,” Eze stated on multiple occasions.
