Freddie Ljungberg, a former winger for Arsenal, has pleaded with manager Mikel Arteta to give Bukayo Saka a break because he is the team’s “most important player.”
While expressing his concerns about an Arsenal team facing off against Manchester City in a Premier League match this weekend without Saka, Ljungberg said this.
Saka has been recovering from an injury for a month, but Arteta has scarcely allowed him any kind of break.
As they thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 last weekend, the England international unexpectedly extended his streak of consecutive Premier League starts to an astounding 87 games.
The 22-year-old, however, had to leave the game early because of another knock.
He unexpectedly got the nod to start for Arsenal against Lens in their 2-1 Champions League loss to the Ligue 1 team from France on Tuesday.
However, the choice backfired as Saka was ejected from the game in the 34th minute.
“Looking at this worries all of the Arsenal supporters a little bit. According to Ljungberg, he was tapping the back of his hamstring.
“I’ve been trying to give him a little bit of a break. He played a little too much, in my opinion. He’s still young, and you claim that young people can run as far as they can.
“Stop him! Since he is the most significant player, occasionally give him a break. I’m a little concerned about how Arsenal will perform without him this weekend.
