On November 24, 2023, Kaduna Electric carried out a night raid and captured a man named Mr. Opafola Abiodun who lived at No. 18 Mopa Road in Kaduna.

According to allegations, Abiodun was using the 11KV Leventis Feeder to tap electricity. However, an external by-pass on metre number 04190482713 caught him in the act.

On September 28, 2023, he was charged N104,823.18 and disconnected from the power supply, according to HoU Non-MD Metering, Engr. U. A. Gumel.

The booking letter functions as a formal confirmation of the charges and was duly accepted by Abubakar on November 29, 2023, with GSM: 07056646853.

Gumel clarified that Abiodun turned to illicit reconnection in the evening and the night rather than paying the remaining balance.

On November 24, 2023, it was reported by surveillance staff conducting a normal monitoring operation that they had caught him red-handed. This prompted action, and once the police were notified, the energy theft offender was apprehended.

He went on to say, “Kaduna Electric’s security section is now handling the issue and is getting ready for prosecution. A second charge of 92,774.39 has been filed against Mr. Abiodun in response to the repeated offences, in line with the ORDER ON UNAUTHORISED ACCESS, METRE TAMPERING, AND BY-PASS ORDER NO: NERC/REG/41/2017.
