According to a former Director of Currency Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Ahmed Umar, the governor-elect Godwin Emefiele printed his own naira design.

During his testimony in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Umar revealed this.

The characteristics in the design that former President Muhammadu Buhari approved differed from the one that Emefiele had printed, according to the former director of CBN.

“The President’s approved design has a QR code, but the currency in circulation does not,” Umar stated. The President’s approved number scheme differs from what the CBN produced, and the portrait was positioned on the right while the CBN printed it on the left.

Emefiele was charged with four counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 15 before FCT High Court Judge Maryanne Anenih.

However, Emefiele refuted the accusations and was granted N300 million in bail.
