The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Hafizu Kawu was declared the winner of the February 25 Federal House of Representatives election by the National and State House of Assemblies Election Petition Tribunal, which overturned the victory of Mukthar Umar Yarima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to the forgery of his primary school diploma.
The three-person tribunal panel’s ruling affirmed the fact that Yarima, the respondent, did not attend Hausawa Primary School.
The tribunal concluded that Yarima falsified his primary school diploma and was therefore ineligible to run in the Tarauni Federal House of Representatives Election after examining witness testimony and the materials presented to it.
As a result, the panel deemed all of the votes received by the NNPP candidate to be invalid, and thus declared Hafizu Kawu of the APC, who placed second in the election, to be the election’s victor.
