El-Rufai Holds Talks with SDP Leaders Amid Defection Speculations
Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kaduna State, recently attended a significant meeting with stakeholders from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
This meeting, which was documented through viral images and videos, has sparked speculation about El-Rufai’s future political ambitions.
According to a reliable source, the former Governor unexpectedly visited the SDP’s secretariat at Senator Abubakar Gada’s residence in Abuja, where he met with SDP chairman Shehu Musa Gabam and other party leaders.
This surprise visit was aimed at strengthening El-Rufai’s political connections in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The source also revealed that El-Rufai, who holds a prominent position within the APC, visited the SDP’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, for a consultation.
On the previous Friday, Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization, claimed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Presidential Election, was considering leaving the Labour Party to join El-Rufai in the SDP.

Bwala made this assertion on his social media handle, citing the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party and the threat from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to take control of the party as reasons for Obi’s potential departure.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, joined the Labour Party in May 2023 after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
Bwala, a PDP member who openly supports President Bola Tinubu of the APC, shared this information on social media, highlighting the legal ownership dispute between the NLC and the Labour Party and the potential implications for Obi’s political future.
