Ekpa-Led BRGIE Writes Canada, Defends Amaka Sunnberger Amid Threats to Yoruba and Edo

The Ekpa-led BRGIE has addressed Canada regarding threats against the Yoruba and Edo communities, defending Amaka Sunnberger in their statement and seeking international support.

The Biafra Government in Exile under the leadership of Simon Ekpa has issued a letter to the Canadian authorities, intervening on behalf of Amaka Sunnberger amidst demands for her prosecution following her alleged threat to harm both Yoruba and Bini residents residing within Edo State.

Remember that Sunnberger caused uproar with her Tiktok video which has now become viral, in which she threatened to harm the Yoruba and Edo individuals.

The Nigerian government, represented by Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, filed a petition with Brampton’s Mayor urging persecution of Sunnberger for their threatening remarks. This was done in reaction to Sunnberger’s comments.

Upon hearing about the development, Ekpa – also referred to as the Prime Minister of BRGIE – pledged to protect Sunnberger.

Dr. Joy Robi, also recognized as the Director General of Biafra Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has addressed a letter to the Mayor of Brampton in order to fulfill his promise.

Ekpa, through his official X handle on Friday, composed a letter comprising three pages addressing the Canadian Government. His main point of concern was with respect to NiDCOM’s statements regarding Sunnberger which Ekpa believes contains inaccuracies and has potential for misunderstandings.

The letter alleged that certain individuals in Nigeria had made violent comments about Biafrans, but the government did not respond with calls for their prosecution.

Below is a counter-argument supported by evidence that highlights the Nigerian government’s video violence on killings of indigenous people in Nigeria. This, in turn, led to several individuals fleeing out of Nigeria to safeguard their lives – something which NiDCOM represents.

According to reports received by the Biafra Government, Mrs. Amaka Patience Sonnberge suffered emotional distress due to a failed abduction attempt of her child in Canada carried out by two persons.

It’s worth mentioning that Biafrans, both in Nigeria and overseas, are experiencing severe suffering as a result of constant threats to the safety of the Igbo people. This emotional torment has been disregarded out of fear for personal safety.

The Chair of NiDCOM hails from a privileged Nigerian tribe that is currently receiving positive attention. However, she has disregarded the severe mental anguish being inflicted upon the Biafra people who belong to an esteemed Igbo race.

It is worth noting that Mrs. Amaka Patience Sonnberge, whose family has suffered greatly at the hands of certain Nigerian tribes in Biafra land causing her significant mental anguish, may have spoken out of anger as a result of her painful experiences. However, this alone does not justify NiDCOM pushing for her to lose employment opportunities.

To sum up, I strongly advocate that the accusations leveled against Mrs. Amaka Patience Sonnberge lack merit and fail to represent her authentic personality as well as contributions towards addressing the afflictions endured by Biafrans in Nigeria on a daily basis – both physical and emotional.

I politely ask you to disregard the NiDCOM assertions in light of the presented evidence and permit Mrs. Amaka Patience Sonnberge to sustain her positive contribution towards your community in Canada.

Part of the letter states that “Mrs Amaka Patience Sonnberge will receive protection from any actions carried out by NiDCOM when under the authority of Biafra government.”
