During a session in the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, a lawmaker representing Ekiti North 1 (Ikole / Oye) Federal Constituency, became emotional and shed tears while addressing the killings of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.
Rotimi drew the attention of the House to the tragic incident where the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsola, were murdered by gunmen on their way back from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti.
As the spokesperson for the House, Rotimi raised a motion of urgent national importance, highlighting the rise in criminal activities in Ekiti North 1 Federal Constituency, which has resulted in loss of lives and properties.
He emphasized that the constituency faces unique security challenges due to its forested areas and topography, compounded by the poor condition of Ekiti federal roads. In response, the House passed resolutions urging the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy military personnel to the Oke-Ako area of Ekiti for enhanced security, directing various security agencies to deploy more personnel to Ekiti North 1 to apprehend the perpetrators, and calling on the Chief of Defence Staff to establish civilian joint forces in Plateau State following attacks that claimed the lives of over 50 individuals in the Mangu Local Government Area.
Ishaya Lalu, the representative of Bokkos Federal Constituency in Plateau State, raised a motion of urgent national importance, which led to the adoption of the motion. As a result, the House of Representatives observed a minute of silence and instructed its committees on Defence and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.
Consequently, the House adjourned its plenary session until the following Tuesday.
