Egypt will face Nigeria in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations

The host nation, Egypt, and the Nigerian Flying Eagles have been placed in a challenging group for the 2023 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mozambique and Senegal were also placed in Group A for the draw, which took place on Friday night in Cairo, Egypt, where they will compete alongside Nigeria and Egypt for first place.

From February 19 to March 11, 2023, the TotalEnergies Egypt 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations will be held. Cairo (Group A), Ismailia (Group B), and Alexandria are the host cities (Group C).

The twelve-nation tournament will begin on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 16 h local time, with a tense opening match between hosts Egypt and Mozambique.

Together with Mohamed Shawky, a former Pharaohs star who shone for Egypt’s U20 team by winning the 2011 U-20 World Cup bronze medal as well as the 2006 and 2008 AFCON titles, Shawky Gharib, a former Egyptian international midfielder who guided Egypt to a third-place finish at the U20 World Cup in 2001 and the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2019, attended the draw.

Groups and locations:

Egypt, Mozambique, Senegal, and Nigeria are in Group A at the Cairo International Stadium.
Uganda, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Congo are in Group B at the Suez Canal Stadium.
Gambia, Tunisia, Benin, and Zambia are in Group C and will compete there.
