The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged the government to prohibit foreign missions in Nigeria from charging visas and other consular services in foreign currencies, emphasizing the importance of adopting Nigeria’s regulatory framework for exchange rates.

This call was made to ensure that the offering of consular services in foreign denominations does not undermine Nigeria’s monetary policies and its goals for sustainable economic growth.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, the EFCC highlighted the necessity for all foreign missions in Nigeria to adhere to the country’s regulations regarding the exchange rate of their services, emphasizing the legal implications of accepting payments in foreign currencies.
