The EFCC has officially cleared Goje’s daughter of any wrongdoing in the viral video that showed the alleged abuse of the Nigerian naira, following a thorough investigation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently released a statement exonerating Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, from any involvement in the widely publicized Naira-spraying incident that caused public concern.

The EFCC stated that Mrs. Goje did not appear in the widely circulated social media video showing Naira notes being extravagantly sprayed at a wedding in Kano.

However, the commission clarified that the abuse of the Naira took place at the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah and her husband, Ibrahim Mohammad, who is from Niger Republic.

In a statement issued by EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale, the agency confirmed that both the groom and other individuals involved in the incident have been identified as Nigerien citizens.

Consequently, the EFCC has summoned individuals accused of spraying Naira and dollar bills for questioning, reaffirming its dedication to upholding laws against currency abuse.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been alerted to a viral video showing Naira notes being freely dispersed at a wedding ceremony in Kano, Kano State on Friday, October 24, 2024.

Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, faced allegations from Nigerians across various sectors regarding the misuse of the Naira. These accusations were also highlighted in an editorial by a prominent national newspaper.

As a dedicated anti-corruption agency committed to combating currency mutilation and the dollarization of the economy, the EFCC promptly took action by analyzing the video. Their findings revealed that while naira abuse did occur, it was not at Goje’s daughter’s wedding but rather at Amina Babagana Zannah’s wedding dinner held on the specified date.

Zannah is the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, also known as Hafsat Gold Nigeria. Hajara serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise, which has offices located in Abuja and Kano, as well as in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Haruna verified the viral video and acknowledged that the reported misuse of naira occurred during her daughter’s wedding dinner on October 24, 2024.

The bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad, is from the Republic of Niger and it was reportedly members of his family who were seen spraying naira notes and dollar bills.

The commission has requested that the Nigerien groom, Mohammad, along with everyone who sprayed naira notes at his wedding to Zannah, present themselves at its national headquarters in Abuja.

The EFCC stated that it will not take action against individuals who have been falsely accused of a crime.

It stated: “The EFCC values the awareness that its campaigns against naira misuse are generating nationwide, but it will not take action against individuals who have been falsely accused of a crime.”

The commission remains resolute in this mission and will not overlook any offender, regardless of their status.
