In anticipation of the upcoming governorship election in Edo State on September 22, the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, is confident in his chances of securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.

Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki have had disagreements regarding Shaibu’s ambition to succeed Obaseki, whose second term is coming to an end.

Despite their differences, Shaibu believes that Obaseki will support him, as the governor has expressed this during a stakeholders meeting.

However, Shaibu will face competition from other aspirants within the PDP during the primary election, and it will ultimately be the delegates who determine the party’s flagbearer for the general election.

One of the aspirants is Asue Ighodalo, who is believed to be Obaseki’s preferred successor.

Shaibu mentioned that his boss has denied supporting Ighodalo, but he believes that his experience in both the private and public sectors gives him an advantage over his opponent.
