Hon. Victor Chidi Nwoke, the representative for Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, made a significant political move on Monday by defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This decision was announced during the inauguration of the local Government Committee of BERWO, the Pet Project of the Governor’s wife. Nwoke cited the ongoing and irreconcilable crises within the PDP at both the state and national levels as the reason for his defection.

In explaining his decision, Nwoke praised the achievements and leadership abilities of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, particularly in relation to the People’s Charter of Needs.

He expressed concern over the internal conflicts within the PDP, specifically mentioning the rift between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, and the immediate past Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

These conflicts have caused significant unrest within the party and have led to the formation of opposing factions.

Nwoke further highlighted the leadership struggle between Wike and Atiku, which has resulted in the loss of several party members to other political parties. He also mentioned failed attempts to remove the National Chairman, who is believed to be aligned with the Minister of FCT.

The PDP’s internal crisis has created a polarized environment, making it difficult for the party to function effectively.

In contrast, Nwoke praised the leadership prowess of Governor Nwifuru, describing him as a paradigm of perfection due to his commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs.

The lawmaker’s defection was not a solitary act, as he was joined by Mr. Innocent Oriji, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abakaliki LGA, who is one of his staunch supporters.

Additionally, Hon. Emmanuel Nwandegu, the former leader of the Abakaliki legislative council, and thousands of their loyal supporters also defected to the APC.

Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the state chairman of the APC, warmly welcomed Nwoke and his supporters into the party, emphasizing that they had found their true political home.
