As a kind of student relief, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has granted a 25% decrease in the acceptance fees due at the four state-owned colleges.

Festus Ahon, the governor’s chief press secretary, announced the governor’s approval in a statement on Wednesday in Asaba.

The statement claimed that the reduction in the acceptance fee was consistent with actions taken by the Delta State Government to lessen the impact on residents of the loss of gasoline subsidies.

Ahon added that new students at the state-owned universities, including the Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba, University of Delta, Agbor, and Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, are eligible for a 25% discount in the acceptance fee.

The governor had previously approved the payment of N10,000 to employees for three months and the payment of N5.522 billion to 50,196 employees for unpaid promotion arrears as consolation for state government personnel.

Additionally, the governor has approved a three-working-day rotating schedule for civil workers with Salary Grade Levels 1 through 14, while staff with SGLs 15 and above are free to decide what is convenient for them in their respective MDAs. By doing this, the governor will guarantee that critical services continue to be provided. Additionally, in 22 of the State’s 25 Local Government Areas, teaching and non-teaching employees for primary schools are being hired.

The governor’s spokesman added that the state government has set aside N10 billion in addition to more than 17,000 bags of rice and more than 64,000 bags of corn, all of which are 50 kilogramme bags, as palliatives for the less fortunate, the poor, people with disabilities, and the elderly in society.

All of these initiatives, according to him, are intended to lessen the impact of the state’s inhabitants losing access to fuel subsidies.
