A deadly explosion has struck Tel Aviv, causing significant casualties and raising concerns over the safety and security in the area.

According to local media, an explosion in Tel Aviv that resulted in the death of one man and injury of another is currently under investigation by Israeli police. The authorities are considering the possibility that it was a failed suicide bombing attack which caused the victim’s death.

At approximately 8pm, there was an explosion in the heart of the city that resulted in notable harm to a truck located nearby. According to Central District Commander Perez Amer’s statement recorded by journalists, numerous phone calls were received at the emergency center alerting authorities about this deafening blast and remnants of bodies strewn on Lehi Street.

Upon the arrival of police and paramedics, Amer stated that they observed both a disfigured corpse and indications of an explosion on the wall. Gideon Peri, aged 50 and later identified as the deceased individual in question, was officially declared dead at the location.

A passerby on a scooter received moderate injuries caused by shrapnel while traveling through the area and was transported to the hospital for medical care.

According to the officials, it is suspected that the deceased victim was carrying an explosive device. At first, law enforcement faced challenges in identifying the body; however they concluded that the individual who had been transporting said device was not a civilian but rather this person themselves.

Amer stated that it is premature to determine whether the incident is linked to criminal activity or terrorism, emphasizing the importance of identifying its nature. The investigation involves Shin Bet security agency.

There is unverified video footage circulating on the internet that seems to capture the exact moment of the blast. Additionally, there’s a different clip depicting an individual carrying a backpack. According to some sources, it’s possible that the intended perpetrator died prematurely due to an early detonation of their explosive device.
