Deadly Cult Clash in Anambra Leaves Many Killed During Festival
A violent clash between rival cult groups during a local festival in Anambra has resulted in multiple fatalities, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
A violent conflict erupted between opposing cult groups at the Nibo Onwa Asaa festival in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, reportedly resulting in multiple fatalities. The clash on Sunday triggered widespread panic and unrest throughout the community.
Witnesses reported a chaotic situation as gunfire erupted across the festival. “Gunshots echoed everywhere, leading to panic and confusion,” one resident recalled. While the exact number of fatalities is still unconfirmed, multiple reports suggest that several people were shot near a restaurant, with more casualties occurring in other areas of Nibo.
In a separate incident, armed individuals allegedly began shooting in Nodu.

Following the unrest, the Anambra State Police Command has increased security measures in the region. According to police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has mandated prompt action to tackle the suspected cult-related violence. Ikenga encouraged residents who have any information to step forward, promising that all tips will be handled confidentially.
The authorities are still conducting investigations, and residents are encouraged to stay alert.
