Customs Sells Seized Fuel at N630 Per Litre
Nigerian Customs has begun selling seized fuel at N630 per litre, raising concerns about fuel pricing amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has sold petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit, which was confiscated by its officers in Yola, Adamawa State.
The Comptroller General of the NCS, Bashir Adeniyi, revealed this information at a press briefing in the northeastern state.
The Comptroller General, through the NCS Deputy Controller General Olaniyi Olajugun, announced that there would be an “immediate auction of the seized products at two petrol stations in Yola for ₦630 per litre.”
He stated that the seizures highlight the ongoing challenge and emphasize the need for continued vigilance and action.
Adeniyi reported that the NCS Operation Whirlwind achieved notable success in combating fuel smuggling by confiscating two lorries, 1,046 kegs filled with PMS, and 12 drums of petroleum products.
He stated, “Our ongoing operations have achieved significant seizures in several locations: the North-West borders within the Sokoto-Kebbi area, the South-West borders near Seme-Badagry and Idiroko, as well as at the southern borders in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.”
I am happy to report that in the newest phase of Operation Whirlwind, we have captured two trucks transporting smuggled petroleum products, 1,046 kegs containing PMS, and 12 drums of petroleum products. Furthermore, one suspect has been arrested in connection with these smuggling activities.
The head of customs issued a warning to those involved in illegal activities, stating, “Anyone caught smuggling our nation’s resources will face the full extent of the law.”
He also called on all Nigerians, especially those living in Adamawa and other border states, to back the operation.
He added, “Your vigilance and cooperation are vital in our joint efforts to protect the nation’s resources and ensure that all Nigerians fully experience the benefits of fuel price deregulation.”
