Customs earns N118 billion and seizes N1 billion in contraband in Onne

The first half of the 2023 fiscal year saw more than N118 billion in revenue, according to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area 11, Onne Command.

This information was provided to journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt in a statement from Comptroller Imam Baba that was signed by the command PR officer, Spt. Benjamin Lomba.

The command, according to the statement, also seized 32 containers of illegal goods valued more over N1 billion within the time period under consideration.

By effectively addressing all tax leakages and smuggling activities, the comptroller stated that his administration had thus far made commendable efforts.

He added that the outcome resulted in the successful seizure of 32 containers, the Duty Paid Value of which exceeded N1.1 billion.

Pharmaceuticals/Medicines and fireworks with a Duty Paid Value of N139.8 million were among the items seized, according to the records.

The duty-paid value of textiles is N3.6 million, the duty-paid value of plastic is N6.6 million, and the duty-paid value of vegetable oil is N833.1 million.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has subsequently received the drugs, in accordance with the terms of the agreement of understanding between the NCS and NDLEA, which the command recovered in one of the bonded terminals in June.
