Sources claim that Prince Bassey Otu, the governor-elect of Cross River State, has been attempting to curry favour with influential natives both inside and outside the state in order to garner their support for his new administration.

Among these natives, according to Obasanjonews24, are the former director general of the State Security Services (SSS), Ekpenyong Ita, and the minister of state for power, Giddy Jeddy-Agba.

While the details of the governor-elect’s conversation with them were not made public, observers believe he was discussing strategy and building support for his government, which will take office in May 2023.

It has been hypothesised that he visited the former head of the secret police in light of the security issues plaguing the country, including abduction, gangsterism, and intercommunal violence.

Jeddy Agba’s efforts in helping him win were acknowledged by Otu.

In order to further the state’s expansion and development, Otu and Jeddy-Agba vowed to continue their close collaboration.

At various points in their careers, both dignitaries harboured ambitions to serve as the state’s governor.

It is said that Otu has already contacted a number of business partners and stakeholders in the state within a week of the INEC’s announcement of his candidature.
