Court sets a hearing date in the Soun of Ogbomoso lawsuit

The judgement date in a case brought by Prince Mohammed Kabir Olaoye to contest the kingmakers’ selection of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso has been set for October 3.

Oba Jimoh Oyewumi’s transition on December 12, 2021, left the Soun of Ogbomoso stool empty, according to OBASANJO NEWS24.

The date was set by Justice A.K. Adedokun on Tuesday.

After Olaoye’s attorney, Oladapo Atanda, and Kolawole Fatoye, who represented Ghandi and the kingmakers, followed their procedures and presented their reasons for and against the lawsuit, which was filed in July 2022 and was marked HOG/27/2022, the judgement date was set.

He requested that the court order a new nomination procedure and set aside the nomination, among other reliefs.

The Oyo State governor, the state’s attorney general, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, the Ogbomoso North Local Government, the Ogbomoso North Traditional Council, and Prince Amos Olawole Olaoye (the Mogaji Olaoye ruling house) are the defendants in the case, who are listed in order from first to sixth.

The 7th to 11th defendants are the kingmakers led by Chief S.O. Otolorin (Areago of Ogbomoso and chairman), Chief Salawu Ajadi (Jagun), Chief Tijani Abioye (Bara), Cheif David Adeniran Ojo (Ikolaba) and Chief Yusuf Kasali Oladipupo (Abese) while Prince Ghandi Olaoye, the Soun nominee, is the 12th defendant.
