Court remands Benue man accused of killing his wife
Matthew Bem was placed under detention in a Makurdi correctional facility on Friday by a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court, following his suspected murder of his wife, Mngusonum Bem.
The farmer, 42, who resides in Benue’s Konshisha Local Government Area’s Korinya Settlement, was accused of culpable homicide.

He was denied permission to plead lack of jurisdiction, nonetheless, by Chief Magistrate Mr. T.K. Atta.
For additional discussion, Atta postponed the issue until December 20, 2023.
Previously, the Divisional Police Headquarters, Tse-Agberagba, transferred the matter, according to a letter dated October 26, 2023, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Godwin Ato, informed the court.
According to the letter, which Ato said he received from the official in charge of Korinya Police Station on October 24, 2023, a man killed his wife.
According to the letter, the defendant got into a fight with his 30-year-old wife on that fateful October 24. During the altercation, the defendant took a knife to stab his wife, who immediately bled to death.
The defendant readily admitted to perpetrating the crime after being detained by the police, according to the prosecution.
He claimed that section 222 of the Benue 2004 penal code law was broken by the offence.
