On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Kano confirmed that Mohammad Abacha is the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Kano State.

In a ruling on Thursday night, Justice A.M. Liman, the presiding judge, declared the Kano PDP governorship primary election that produced Sadiq Wali void and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to substitute Mohammed Abacha’s name in its place.

Prior to being moved to Thursday night, the virtually delivered judgment had been scheduled for 12:00 noon.

Remember that Mohammed Abacha filed the lawsuit as the plaintiff, and INEC was named as the first defendant along with Sadik Wali, the PDP, and Wada Sagagi.

Lead lawyers for the plaintiffs, Reuben Atabo, SAN, and Sai’du Tudun Wada, said that the verdict was fair and a victory for democracy.

Mohammed Abacha filed the lawsuit in the Federal High Court in Kano on July 22, 2022. He asserted six reasons for his decision and requested six reliefs, all of which were granted, according to Atabo, who reminisced about the case.

According to the papers in front of the court, Atabo SAN said that the lawsuit was started by the publication and submission of Sadiq Aminu Wali’s name as the Kano PDP governorship candidate to INEC, even though he never took part in the party’s primary process that led to the plaintiff.

He stated that following the publication on May 25, 2022, the PDP proceeded and forwarded Wali’s name to INEC.According to Abacha, he then took action to challenge the legitimacy of Wali’s candidacy for governor of Kano on behalf of the PDP.
