Citizens won’t gain from Nigeria Air, says former NAMA DG Iyayi
The planned Nigeria Air, according to Captain Roland Iyayi, a former director general of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), would not be advantageous to the Nigerian people.
Additionally, he said that Ethiopian Airlines’ acquisition of a controlling share in Nigeria Air was not transparent and would result in unfair competition in the nation’s airspace market.
This information was revealed by Captain Roland Iyayi during a Wednesday AriseTV interview that Obasanjonews24 saw.
An interim injunction prohibiting the Nigerian government from establishing its intended national airline, Nigeria Air, was previously issued by the Lagos Federal High Court.
Iyayi responded to the news by claiming that the planned national carrier would not benefit the Nigerian economy since it would be owned by foreign airlines.
“The interactions are not totally transparent,” he remarked.
We have difficulties with that, and after looking over all the submitted documentation, we discovered that this new carrier has been granted unauthorized powers that domestic operators are not entitled to.
The government, for instance, wants to put a 15-year tax freeze on the national airline.
“In the end, Nigeria Air won’t be advantageous to the Nigerian populace.
If we permit a foreign carrier to enter the market with exclusive benefits that other carriers aren’t receiving, there will be unfair competition.
He explained that Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON went to court because the government had already chosen Ethiopian Airlines before the process even began.
In addition, he said that Ethiopian Airlines has listed Nigeria Air as one of its subsidiaries on its website.
Nigeria doesn’t need a national airline that is a subsidiary of another state, in my opinion. Nigerians seek a national carrier that is entirely owned by Nigerians.
