Burna Boy is correct; very few of us create music with depth – BNXN
Burna Boy’s contentious claim that the majority of Nigerian musicians lack “substance” in their music has been supported by well-known singer Daniel Benson, alias BNXN.
Burna Boy recently caused a stir when he implied during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that afrobeats is “literally nothing” and has any lyrical “substance.”
Burna Boy was spot on, according to BNXN, who responded during an Instagram live session, highlighting the fact that just a select few of them [artists] produce songs with “proper substance.”
You see, Burna [Boy] is so different from me, which is why I connect with him so well.
“When I listened to him and to everyone else, it was clear that he was acting independently. The same applies to listening to me. However, you only want to whine, Sha. You won’t find what we’re doing here anywhere else. I swear to you.
“Only a select number of us [artists] are genuine and performing music with appropriate content and having something to say.
“I was wondering why everyone misunderstood Burna when I was watching the interview the other day. You will constantly be confused by what you don’t comprehend. So, no problem.
I didn’t find anything wrong with what he said personally. The only problem there is that he omitted to mention that he participates in our [afrobeats] work as well.
