Buhari requested that Nnamdi Kanu speak to the media about the suspension of the sit-at-home policy
Buhari requested that Nnamdi Kanu speak to the media about the suspension of the sit-at-home policy.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to allow Nnamdi Kanu to personally address the media to affirm and categorically confirm the suspension of the sit-at-home order following a series of skirmishes, targeted violence, and attacks planned by alleged armed supporters of Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil rights advocacy group, issued the call on Monday.
Also, HURIWA criticized the police and the Directorate of State Services for not being able to stop the dozens of violent crimes and hit-and-run shootings that were happening in the South East. These crimes and shootings were done by criminals and terrorists, who HURIWA said were trying to destroy the main source of income for millions of Igbo people.
“The President should allow Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to speak to Igbo people to affirm or deny the report by his lawyers that he had ordered a regime of chaos, anarchy, and doom in the south-east of Nigeria because the DSS, the Police, the Armed Forces, and the governors of that region are happy that the commoners are being decimated, degraded, and nearly wiped off the earth by the scorched earth terrorist attacks of undesirable elements seeking to unleash
“The live television broadcast by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on the ongoing controversy surrounding the order will allay any fears or suspicions held by Simon Ekpa-aligned individuals that Nnamdi Kanu did not order the termination of the economically stagnant Sit-at-Home order in South-East Nigeria.”Second, President Muhammadu Buhari should democratize gun licenses, as was done in Ukraine, to allow sane adult Nigerians to carry AK-47s and AK-49s in case of a national emergency to protect their right to life. “With these killings continuing, for whom will President Muhammadu Buhari lead the government?”HURIWA stated this in a statement released by Emmanuel Onwubiko, its national coordinator.
The rights group also didn’t like how suspect gunmen who were supposed to be carrying out Simon Ekpa’s order to stay home beat and killed a lot of Igbo people.
“Our Igbo ancestors won’t be pleased with us if we continue to support armed terrorists of Igbo descent who are murdering other Igbos due to political disagreements and support for the Srkf government. If President Muhammadu Buhari is not behind the chaos in the South-East, then let his administration take a practical approach, like allowing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to speak urgently to the media to stop these killings.
“The fastest way to resolve the standoff between Simon Ekpa’s supporters and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB, is for President Major General Muhammadu Buhari to permit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to publicly, in a widely publicized live broadcast from the DSS office to personally confirm the suspension of the sit-at-home order by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, contrary to Simon Ekpa’s claims. The group argued that this needed to be done right away to stop the constant bloodshed in Igbo Land.
HURIWA also denounced the alleged gunmen’s attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Monday morning.
“The building sustained damage after a firebomb set it on fire.
This is taking place eight days after an attack on an INEC office occurred in the state’s Orlu Local Government Area.
Three of the attackers, including their commander, were shot and killed in the Owerri incident, which took place at around 3 a.m. today morning.
Additionally, eight vehicles, some pump action weapons, and AK-47 rifles were taken from the thugs.
This morning, gunmen attacked the INEC office in Owerri, Imo State, with a lot of noise. The combined security team was able to stop them and kill three of the attackers, including their leader.
“Seven vehicles, as well as seven AK-47s and pump action weapons, were found. Many of the shooters managed to flee while still wounded. However, one police car was set on fire by the thugs, according to the statement, which also mentioned that just three AK-47 rifles and cars were found, according to Abattam.
He said, “We killed three of the attackers and found three pump action and AK47 weapons. Two explosives and three of their cars were also found.
Following the event, it was learned that security had been stepped up in some areas of Owerri.
