Buhari, El-Rufai, Amaechi Absent as APC Holds NEC Meeting

Former President Buhari, ex-governor El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi were notably absent as the APC held its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. Read more on the key discussions.

Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja for a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).

A combined team of armed security personnel, including soldiers from the Guards Brigade, has cordoned off all roads leading to the meeting venue on Blantyre Street.

Both vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Blantyre Street are restricted, just as journalists have been kept outside. This is despite the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, releasing an accredited list of reporters this morning.

Among the first to arrive at the venue were all members of the National Working Committee (NWC), representatives from the Forum of State Chairmen, former Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, Minister Atiku Bagudu for Budget and National Planning, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

Present at the event are the governors of Edo, Benue, Ondo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Yobe,Niger,Lagos,Kogi,Ogun and Imo,the deputy governor of Ebonyi as well as former governors from Kogi , Kebbi , Niger,Zamfara,and Plateau.

Notably missing are former President Muhammadu Buhari, ex-Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, and past Governor of Rivers State as well as former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi.

In attendance are the party’s leader, President Bola Tinubu; Vice President Kashim Shetimma; Senate President Goodwill Akpabio; and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

The NEC meeting is scheduled for the day following the party’s national caucus gathering at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
