Britain commends Tinubu and asks FG to resolve opposition concerns
The newly elected president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has received congratulations from the United Kingdom for winning the election that took place on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
In addition to congratulating Nigeria on the election, the UK urged it to resolve opposition party concerns about how it was organised, which were raised by civil society organisations and foreign observers as well as by James Cleverly, the foreign secretary of the UK.
According to James Cleverly, the UK applauds Nigerian citizens for their participation in the Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as for their perseverance and foresight in exercising their democratic rights. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president, is congratulated.

“We take note of the opposition’s perspective on the election’s results as well as the worries civil society and observer missions have about how the process is being organised, which has been plagued by delays and technological difficulties.
“We urge the authorities to carefully consider every complaint and take steps to address outstanding problems with enforcing the decision of the Nigerian people,” they said.
