BREAKING: Over 15 Children Burnt to Death, Others Injured as Fire Razes School in Zamfara
Tragedy struck in Zamfara as a fire engulfed a school, leaving over 15 children dead and several others injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
In a tragic event, a fire at an Islamiya school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State resulted in the deaths of at least 17 Almajiri students and left 16 others injured.
According to eyewitness reports, the fire that erupted late Tuesday night blazed for almost three hours before it was finally contained. Despite attempts to control the flames, the blaze resulted in significant damage and a tragic loss of life.
A local resident, Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura, reported that the fire originated from stored sticks called kara and rapidly spread to the study hall of Makaranta Mallam Ghali. At the time, approximately 100 students were gathered there for their studies.
“It took place in their study hall. After the students were evacuated, it was assumed that no one remained inside. However, when they returned following the fire, they began to see hands and legs; these remains were burned beyond recognition,” he recounted.
The students who passed away were laid to rest on Wednesday following Islamic rites.
Speaking over the phone, Comrade Mannir Muazu Haidara, the Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, confirmed the tragic incident. He mentioned that he was on his way to evaluate the situation and would share more details later.
