In reaction to considerable criticism from its customers, the telecom company MTN has opted to close down all of its Nigerian stores and service centers.

Following an occurrence on Sunday where discrepancies between the National Identification Numbers of subscribers and their SIM registrations were discovered, the network provider made a decision to block multiple lines.

Things got worse after a video that went viral showed an angry mob vandalizing an MTN office situated in FESTAC Town, Lagos. The clip portrayed numerous dissatisfied clients besieging the firm’s premises to air their grievances.

Confirming the restoration of order and calm in the affected area, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer acknowledged local authorities’ response to the unrest.

MTN took to social media on Tuesday and declared that all its stores throughout Nigeria would stay shut for the day. The corporation communicated with clients by issuing a statement: “Hey there! Please be advised that our outlets all over the country will remain closed today, 30th July 2024.”
