Kwara, Adamawa, Kebbi, and the FCT have delayed their report on the State Police proposal, sparking concerns about the progress of security reforms.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has once more set a one-week deadline for three states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to submit reports on establishing State police in the country.

Remember that the NEC had decided to approve a detailed report from all 36 states of the Federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which would lead to establishing State Police.

The NEC cautioned that any decision made regarding the issue would be mandatory for states that do not submit their report by one week prior to the deadline.

On February 15, 2024, President Bola Tinubu concurred with the state governors’ recommendation to establish State Police.

The initiative is designed to mitigate the increasing insecurity within the nation.

For this purpose, states were instructed to submit their reports to the Council for discussion and subsequent action.
